.91 HSV-2 Result

Hello. What does a IGG .91 hsv2 result mean? Is that essentially a negative test? The other result for HSV1 was IGG .69

Yes, it's essentially negative unless you tested before 12 weeks had passed from your last possible exposure. Then it might just be too early to know.

Why were you testing? Routine? Symptoms?

This was my first test for HSV2. It is just routine. I have never had any symptoms.

I have been practicing abstinence my whole life which is why I am a bit concerned how it is even possible to have a positive result.

What is it about herpes virus that we can't just get a simple yes or no? Every other STD test gives me a clear yes or no.
You've never had sex? No genital to genital contact?

Then here's your first simple no :) - you can't have hsv2 if you haven't had any direct, unclothed genital to genital contact.
If you've been abstinent, why are you STD testing? How are you defining that? I don't mean to be snarky, but I can help more and make sure I give you the best info about STDs if I know your definition. :)
hey. This was my first comprehensive STD panel in 33 years. I requested it. I've been abstinent. No genital to genital contact. that's why I was surprised I was even in the HSV2 equivocal range at all. My doctor did explain false positives, and the risks of inaccurate IGG tests but I insisted. If I was even CLOSE to being positive for any type of HSV,  I would assume it would be type 1, not type 2 since it almost always lives near the genital region.
Yes, hsv1 is very common orally, and many people get it as children, from well meaning adults who kiss them. Anyone having hsv1 doesn't surprise me.

I'm glad your doctor is even aware of the false positives, as so many aren't. That's a good thing for you.

I'd call it a negative easily and move on and let it go. :)
hey. just following up. I had a followup test and got my results. hsv1 = .21 and HSV2 =.79. So that's negative for both which is what I expected. Thanks for all you help and support. I almost had a panic attack when I got the text saying my results were in. I hope this is the last time I have to think about Herpes. It's been an experience.
You're welcome.  :)
