Hi, what test was performed? And yes its possible to have an outbreak anywhere in the boxer short area including the spot your having it. Hsv2 almost always breaks out in the same spot give or take an inch.
If you tested negative for hsv1 then the oral is not herpes related and unless its recent.
I would suggest your friend get tested as well. Did you have the outbreak before you met him?
Even though your lesions aren't on the actual genitals, this is still considered genital herpes. why? Because the virus infected the entire nerve ganglia that supplies the genital area and it will shed from the entire anal-genital area periodically, even without actual lesions present. The skin on the thigh is thicker than the genital mucosa and you are only shedding from the area you get the lesions on when actual lesions are present. Otherwise you should take the same precautions as someone who gets actual lesions on their genitals. Make sense?
If you haven't read the free herpes handbook by Terri Warren yet, be sure to google it and give it a read through . It explains it in a lot more detail!!
So what do you do now? Well, next step is to talk to your partner. Be honest - you were told you had shingles but now know that that diagnosis was an error and you have hsv2 genitally. They will need to be tested too. once you know who has what, you can decide what precautions to take from this point out. Even if you just avoid sex any time you have anything going on genitally, his risk is only 4%/year of contracting it from you. Is this an easy conversation to have? No it is not but it's being sexually responsible as well as I assume you care for this other person and their health too.
Did you discuss with your provider how to treat your herpes?
Ulcers inside the mouth are usually canker sores, not herpes lesions. You can google for more info on those too.
keep asking questions!!
