Initial HSV 2 on knee--NEED ADVICE

Hi, I am 18 years old and i have NEVER been engaged in any kind of sexual activity EVER. Not fingering, oral sex, or dry humping. I am not just saying this. There is no point for me to lie here, I just need some answers. My step brother was diagnosed with HSV 2 6 months ago, and he lives with us. He practices good hygene, like hand washing, using his own towels, etc. I try to stay up-to-date on this stuff now that I know it can happen to anyone.  About a month ago, I got this weird bump on my knee. I didn't think too much about it. But then it came back and my knee hurt so bad! The bump then bust and there was like a hole in it! It has healed now. I am soo worried! I get cold sores regularly, so this one looked kinda like a cold sore. I have been searching internet until I can't look at the computer and couldn't find much information about non-sexual ways of transmission. And I couldn't find anything about an initial outbreak on a knee. I haven't tested, but I am pretty much sure this is it. I never share towels, razors or anything like that with him. I don't remember if I had a cold sore at some point, so that I touched it and maybe scratched my poor knee...Sorry the post is so long, but it is just so unusual to get it there. If it is H, will I now shed it from my genitals as well?!

it's more likely to be mrsa than it is herpes.

when is your appointment?

I did make an appointment. Now Im waiting for it. I know I sound paranoid, but I have searched online and haven't found any other thing except for herpes that would match my symptoms. You read a lot of stuff here from people who don't have it but think they do. When I first got it, I didn;t pay attention. But then it came back and I had a headache and didn't feel well, plus the leg pain...And it ulcerated. I keep reading about how impossible it is to get it via non-sexual contact and don't know what to think. If I at least had had sex, that would have been understandable...

have you been seen yet or are you just sitting at home worrying that you have herpes?

I meant can it get inside  through non-genital skin for the first time and not through genital area?

Thanks!

It infects the nerves that go to the skin.  So yes you can get it in the non-genital skin but it is in the boxer shorts region.

Is it possible for HSV2 to generate on non-genital skin?

yes it's the same nerves.

I have a question: do the same nerves supply only the lower abdomen-buttocks-genitals-thighs area? What about knees and lower legs?

Thanks!!

You need to seek your doctor's advice.  As grace said it isn't Herpes going on.

Thanks, grace! I hope not. But the skin hurt before the bump appeared. And the second time my whole leg hurt because of it...I am so scared to go to the doctors :(( Have you ever heard of a HSV2 on a knee?Assuming I have it, will I shed from my genital area? :((

your step brother's genital herpes is not an issue for anyone in the household. Pretty much unless he's having sex with someone, it's not a concern.  everyone in a household should have their own towels, washcloths, toothbrushes , razors and body buff puffs because other very common germs are transmitted through sharing them.

it's not herpes going on with your knee.  you aren't going to transmit your own hsv1 oral infection to your knee either.
