Ok. My doc just called me and said he found herpes on my cervix when he dis my paps. Now I am pregnant just had my daughter 5 months ago had blood work and nothing showed up not even in my husband. Could I have still had this for a long time and not known it even though we had blood work done or is this something I just contracted. Please help because if so my husband cheated and I am going to die and will it show up now in blood work. In dying need of answers.

And one more thing... Maybe grace would have to confirm but I recalled reading from grace that getting a blood test while pregnant will not be accurate.  You can search on this forum on pregnancy and igg test... I am pretty sure that's what grace wrote.

Sorry I missed the part u r pregnant... So this is even more important!
Even if u have it.... Many had children without any worry!  But I am not expert so it's even more critical for u to be on the same page as your obgyn.  Btw.. Congrats on the pregnancy !!!! That's just awesome:)

U should call ur obgyn and ask about what he saw.  Did he see lesions on your cervix when he did the Pap smear? You should have a list of questions for him.  It's true that herpes outbreak can be in the cervix but I am not sure how can one know if it's happening.....  I'll be praying for u that this is just a false thing..... But following up would be critical.  Btw, did u have any discharges?

In addition, even when the pap suggests HSV, it says nothing about virus type -- and knowing HSV1 versus HSV2 is one of the most important parts of managing genital herpes.

Thanks alot. I plan on having the blood work done. The way my doc was speaking was as though it was a positive confirmation and through you guys advice and reading fron the internet it could be a false positive if I am correct please let me know. So I have hope. And I am praying that he was wrong.

The only thing the Pap smear can tell u ( I just ask my obgyn to do is) is that it can be positive if u do have an outbreak,.. It can be at cervix  but further testing is needed as the pap can only tell u that it detected potential herpes but the recommend further testing is blood test.  Hope this helps and not to scare u but u should follow up with ur obgyn on the next step.  The Pap smear is not a positive confirmation of herpes but a suggestive that it may be.  God bless, S

I repeat you may not have herpes at all. The pap simply isn't a reliable HSV test -- it can be a clue, but nothing more. Talk to your doctor about additional testing, probably an IgG blood test. In the meantime, tell your husband he can cool his jets!

Hi, are you sure the doctor said herpes and not HPV? Herpes on the cervix are normal esp when newly acquired. You need to get more details about this. What test was preformed to conclude herpes and what type hsv1 or 2. Nothing to be overly anxious about. Herpes can be carried for a long time and not show symptoms. It would not appear youve had this a long time as cervix herpes is most often a primary outbreak not recurrent.

And are you sure your doctor said herpes and not HPV?

To clarify:  Sometimes the pap smear gives a clue that herpes might be present. But it is not accurate enough to know for sure. Additional testing is necessary.

Patience, patience -- this isn't a continually monitored or formally moderated forum. Just community volunteers.

Confirm with your doctor exactly what test for herpes was done. The pap smear can't diagnose it; other testing besides the pap is necessary.

Herpes won't "show up in blood work" unless a specific HSV test is done.
