You're either infected or you're not. What test did you take and what were the number results?
Sorry about that. Just read your post again. Ok so since it’s only been 3 weeks your Dr. is airing on the side of caution and will more than likely retest you again. It takes at lest 9-12 weeks and at the max 6moths( don’t quote me on that) for the the most reliable/ accurate IgG test results. 3 weeks might be a bit to soon for an HSV test. Its definitely unlike testing for HIV. HIV test are more advance then HSV test are ( sorry to say) and take much longer to pick up on an accurate count of antibodies in your body fighting the virus.
Best of luck
I can only imagine the stress you have, i too have gotten very stressed over not knowing. However, unfortunately you'll have to wait. The way these tests works is a little strange. You could test 1.5 one day 1.1 the next and 2.3 the one after that. It's a count of antibodies detected so it's constantly changing. That being said you are in the false positive range and I've read having hsv1 can often give increased chances of false positives for hsv2. I've also seen on this site drs say something like 30% of people who are in the false positive range actually end up being positive. So odds are you're ok. I've read 70% of ppl will test positive at 6 week mark so you can retest then. If negative that's a good indicator to being in the clear. But 12 week test should be definitive.
