hsv1 genitally doesn't shed very often at all. you can transmit it to a partner but the risk is low.
has your partner been tested to know their own status?

I would for sure make sure any potential partner was tested for EVERYTHING prior to anything happening sexually. I will only be young and dumb once in my life. At the time I contacted HSV-1, I had no idea that a cold sore could be spread to my genitals.
I mainly posted my question because most of the information on this site didn't directly address the genital to oral transmission rates for HSV-1. It only talked about HSV-2.
