Some people say L-lysine works, some say it doesn't. L-lysine has been proven scientifically not to have an impact on herpes. However, that was only one study. It must be having some affect if so many people are taking it to treat herpes. As far as medication goes, you probably shouldn't take medication if you don't get severe and frequent outbreaks due to the low shedding rate of genital HSV-1. HSV-1 sheds around 3% of days or about 12 days out of the year, which is nothing compared to the shedding rates of HSV-2 and oral HSV-1. Medication really hasn't been proven to reduce shedding of genital HSV-1. Some people take Vitamin C, Vitamin B, and/or a multi-vitamin. You're unlikely to pass this on during sexual intercourse because of the low shedding rate, and considering over half of the population has HSV-1 (mostly orally) they cannot be reinfected.

I suggest that you try to see what works for you with these supplements. Everyone's body is different, and at the very least, these supplements will better your health and immune system, which is essential to fighting other viruses.
