I recently was tested for HSV-1 and HSV-2 and the doctor said I definitely have it. Well, I have been reading a lot of information on this site, and I am curious why my test does not include the actual values.
My test was sent to the Mayo Clinic Laboratories, but the results read as such:
HSV Type 1 Ab, IgG, S Negative
HSV Type 2 Ab, IgG, S Positive
HSV Ab, IgM, S by EIA Reactive
HSV Ab, IgM, S by IFA Positive
That is exactly how the sheet looks. What I am wondering is why the Mayo CLinic Labs wouldn't put the values such as: HSV Type 2 Ab, IgG Positive 4.8 or something similar.
Is there anyway I can get these numbers? How do I request a new test of I want them when my GP only sends his lab work to this lab?
Maybe I am being a wishful thinker, but from what I have read the Mayo Clinic gives a positive result if the HSV-2 is 1 or even as high as 3.0. Am I wrong? I mean it is teh Mayo Clinic, so I am pretty much certain of the test's accuracy, but I would like to know the value because I have never had an outbreak. I was tested because a girlfriend of mine had an outbreak.
I asked my GP for the detailed results, he said it was an up or down test. I called Mayo Clinic Labs and they said the same thing! How can I get the numbers? I am ready to accept this diagnosis, I just want absolute surety. Any advice?
