Ok, Thank you very much for your help I will seek a western blot test :) Your help is much appreciated, Take care!
The reality is that you have tested positive for HSV2 antibodies. It is known at that particular testing level that some people can have proteins unrelated to antibodies that trigger the result. At around 2.11 it is 50/50 as to whether a person has it or not, in the absence of other information.
In this case you have a suspicion that a HSV2 infection is a possibility. Thus there is a stronger likelihood that the WB will confirm an infection.
A few things to note. IgG antibodies are one of up to 100 aspects to the immune response to a HSV infection. Hence the level of antibodies detected by a commercial test is no real indication of your overall immune capabilities. Further people with a long established infection can test at lower levels to how they may have say 10 years previously.
Hence there is nothing unusual necessarily about the result if you carry the infection.
The WB will provide the confirmation you are after, which is necessary as you have no clinical straight story or blood test result straight story.
To be honest talking to my mother about it isn't going to get me anywhere she's a mean drunk, when I ask her she has a different answer every time. But the thing that has me very confused is if I had it since birth wouldn't the virus have settled in and gotten stronger? I'm 23 now If I had it since birth wouldn't it be easy to detect even though I don't have symptoms? My mother has never gotten me tested I asked her if the doctors said anything to her when I was born if there were any problems she said ''Oh they didn't wanna talk about'' lol so tbh I'm not going to get anywhere with her. I didn't tested for HSV-1 even though I should have, I went to free clinic because I dont have medical so I will most likely have to pay for the western blot test. This is just very stressful I'm talking to a girl right now but I'm scared of getting too close I was hoping to get a straight answer from these results but it seems as if the test is saying you may have it or you may not :/
If your mother is telling you that you were infected with HSV2 at birth, then there is a good chance that you were. The symptoms are pretty hefty for a newborn and hence readily diagnosed.
What would be really useful is to understand from your mother where you may be infected. Where were your lesions at birth? Your HSV2 infection may well be an oral infection for example which means you cannot pass the virus from your genital area.
The Westernblot is a great way to go here. The test is the most accurate available for HSV infections and is extremely accurate in detecting HSV1 and HSV2 separately. It does not determine location however.
The reason I got the test was because my mother told me she had HSV-2 was I was born and that she gave it to me, although she never got me tested when i was younger.. I have only been in one serious relationship my whole life and wore protection during intercourse every time. The test confused me because if I was born with it wouldn't the infection be much stronger and easily detectable? I have never had an outbreak whatsoever but I know that doesn't really matter considering a lot of people have no symptoms whatsoever.. But I will take your advise and get a western blot test, it was also recommended on the blood results, But how accurate is the Western Blot test? Can it determine exactly which type I have? Btw thank you for commenting :)
Your result of 2.11 is positive for HSV2, but weakly. It suggests you may have HSV2 but it's uncertain, because most true positive results are 3.0 or higher. What was your HSV1 result? It can make a difference in understanding the HSV2 result. If your doctor isn't an infectious disease or STD expert, ask for referral to one. Additional testing, such as a western blot test, may help sort it out.
