HSV1 - High Reference Range

I recently received my Herpes Select results and they reflect a positive HSV1 Glycoprotein G Ab, IgG result of 8.37 (High).

As this is a "high" result, what does this mean and is it possible to lower this reference range number?

I have not experienced any recognizible symptoms and have not been prescribed or taken any medication.

Does it say % on it, or just say 58.something?

What does your result say exactly? Do you have a copy of the results? It should say something like "HSV1 IgG 58.something".

Yes, it's possible that it's that high, if it says 58.something and not 58% (herpes testing doesn't give results in percentages). Some labs stop tests when the results are clearly positive, some people will get an 8.something, others get much higher.

It means nothing as far as how herpes will act in your body. You could have a result of 8.something and get more outbreaks than someone who gets a 58.something, or vice versa. You could also test next week, and get a 41.87. It doesn't mean you have less of an infection next week.

The test looks for herpes antibodies, which is your body's response to an infection. Some of the number is just kind of background noise - there is no 0.00 result on the test, some is how the lab does it, and some is your body's antibody response.

high next to your result just means it's positive.  no other meaning to the numeric result.

odds are your hsv1 is oral. most adults have hsv1 orally but most never get obvious cold sores to know it.   http://www.ashastd.org/herpes/herpes_learn_oralherpes.cfm  has terrific info for more reading.
