I think that sounds quite sensible... just have to convince my mind to let go now :).
Thanks for all the advice... and I agree on the testing portion, seems like the correct approach.
really no reason to doubt results in general especially given that your providers who are actually seeing your symptoms don' t think that they are herpes related.
as for future partners, discussing testing is important. You can honestly tell them that you were tested after a "scare" and were negative. No reason to continually think that you are one of the few who don't seroconvert/test accurately on the tests we currently have available. make sense?
I received my lab results and they are negative for everything (tests were at 13 weeks since last encounter)... I am still dealing with the anxiety of going through over a month of this and most probably the doctors believe that my symptoms are related to that and the guilt. Will make an effort to put this behind and get over this, already seeing a counsellor for this. The whole ordeal has severely affected my normal life and after reading up on herpes I think partially the unjustified societal stigma attached to it is to blame for it.
A question regarding future relationships... given my results but the potential 5-10% delayed or no seroconversion caveat, should I mention this experience to any future partner?
Thanks for the assurance. Just an update:
Had my appointment today at a STD specialist clinic, took an HIV rapid test which came -ve.
Took another HSV TSST test, results will be hopefully -ve within a a week or so. Seeing that will most probably relieve most if not all of my anxiety. They, agree that the symptoms don't sound like typical herpes.
They also did a PCR for Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea despite the earlier tests being -ve for those. Scraped some sample from my groin as it possibly looked like their could be a fungal growth there.
I still have my earlier symptoms of headaches and muscle pain, pimples are all gone but there is itching around the pubic area. The doctors don't see any possible cause for this and assume its anxiety. The growths/pimples were suggested to be folliculitis despite the fact that I don't shave.
Can't seem to find a cause for it so shall accept that this is still the anxiety, hopefully they'll subside on their own.
Will post an update once I have the lab results.
odds are this wasn't herpes. if you need the peace of mind then by all means repeat your test .
Have fixed an appointment later this week for retesting. Anyone has any advice on the questions above though till I get my results?
Hi,
thanks for the advice... I popped the pimple yday and there was a bit of blood that came out of it and the skin around it was peeling. Woke up and there was still some blood.
I am still anxious about herpes so just for the peace of mind will try to get a type specific HSV test done again.
I have been hearing that iGG may not be very accurate after 9 weeks? Any idea on what % seroconvert after 9 weeks? I've been reading figures like 70-80%?
I wouldn't bother repeating your herpes testing from this encounter. even though it was done a little early, this was protected sex you had and your symptoms do not sound herpes related at all. The risk of contracting herpes from a one time protected encounter is very low.
