it never takes 21 days for a viral culture. Not sure why you were told that.
if you are negative 6 months post encounter either it really is not herpes or it was hsv1 genitally and it wasn't picked up on on the igg blood tests. considering how often you had symptoms and in how many different locations during that time, it doesn't sound like it's even worth thinking these were caused by hsv1.
Well I found out it takes 21 days for a viral culture to be tested last week so I went in and did another blood test to calm my nerves. The IGG test came out negative on both types. The doctor said that the possibility of the culture being positive is extremely slim. The blood test was take 6 month after the possible exposure. Is what the doctor is telling me accurate. Can you test negative on the IGG test after 6 months and have a positive culture? How accurate of a test is the IGG test at 6 months?
Today I was contacted with the result of the bacterial culture, and they said it came out negative. Which leads me to believe that it will definitely be herpes, but my question at this point is there other causes for blisters other than herpes from a viral stand point? Also is there anything else that can cause blisters besides bacterial and viral? I will probably know for sure tomorrow, but I am a little frustrated they gave me one result without the other available. My head is spinning. Please advise.
you are correct - both hsv1 and hsv2 can infect the genital area. proper testing is needed to type the infection if you come back as hsv+.
encourage the provider you saw to review the 2010 cdc herpes guidelines to better educate themselves.

So I went to the doctor and he did a culture. He told me that its a 50/50 chance it could be viral or bacterial so he checked for both. He stated that he said that if it shows up positive it is definitely type II because of the location, and that both types are one in the same. I thought they 2 different form of a similar virus. My question is if it does turn out positive should I get a blood test to determine which one I have?
Thanks for the quick reply. I will set an appointment today.
you need to go and be seen and get your current symptoms looked at. they could be any number of things. if a provider suspects herpes, they can do a herpes lesion culture.
