Herpes and my baby.

So I had my baby back in September. When she was born she had a dried up blister on her foot. The doctor said it was probably herpes and they right away put her on acyclovir. But I did have a lot of question. I have never had an out break of genital herpes EVER. I was told that I had to have an active outbreak in order to pass it to my daughter I had blood work taken as soon as they told me it was herpes and my blood work came back negative. My water had been broken for 4 days ( water broke on a Tuesday had baby on a Friday) My membranes had been stripped on the Tuesday by a doctor she was wearing no gloves and used her hands to strip my membranes. So my question here is, is it possible that I got the herpes from an outside party and not necessarily from having sex ? The Thursday and Friday I had had numerous vaginal checks. I was told that it is herpes simplex 1

Yeah she's doing just fine =) They took fluid from her spine to make sure it wasn't doing anything to her brain. That came back negative. And she is nothing but a healthy happy baby girl. She's doing everything she should be doing right and now. She's is an amazing girl.

do you know what testing came back +?

even the best blood tests for herpes still miss 1 out of every 10 hsv1 infections. If the baby had symptoms when she was born, then you have hsv1 genitally.

is your baby doing ok now?

Yeah they did do testing right after they found it. The preliminary test came back negative and the second test came back positive. How come I tested negative for it ? I had blood taken from me the day she was admitted into the NICU.

no you don't have to have an active herpes lesion present in order to transmit it to your child during birth.

did they do testing on the baby for herpes?  is that what came back as + for hsv1?
