Should I accept or am I in denial?

Hello Everyone,

Is it possible to have a low positive Herpes Select Specific antibody test result HSV 2 (1.73 Igg) and negative HSV 1 and a positive Biokit and still be negative? Should I just accept that I am positive? The Biokit color was a faint pink color. My doctor said that this doesn't matter and that as long as there is a reaction, the result is positive.  I read a journal article that showed examples of the Biokit test results, and though the pictures were not in color, it appears that my test color fit in the 'indeterminant' range. (See link with pictures)

I do plan to follow up with the Western Blot early next year and though I am trying to accept this diagnosis, I still have hope that these tests are wrong. FYI, my culture was negative and I have never had any outbreaks. These results are within 2 weeks apart within the last month.

Please offer advice. I am so confused. Thank you.

Rita

even the best blood tests still miss 1 out of every 10 hsv1 infections. being negative on the igg blood test for hsv1 doesn't mean you can't assume it's a true positive.

labcorp probably did a non-specific test if you got a 22 as a result.

Hello Grace,

Since my HSV-1 was negative. Is this an indicator that I may be positive for HSV-2? Is there a correlation between HSV-1 and HSV-2 results? Also, LabCorp results also had a value of 22 for HSV-2. Have you heard of such a test? The nurse stated that this meant I was recently exposed. Then another nurse stated there is no way to tell by numbers when I was exposed. You can only tell if you had a negative test outside of a window period. Without a previous test, there is no way of knowing how long or when I may have been exposed. Though I was celebate for over 6 years, I had no previous HSV test.
