Herpes

I'm not sure if I have herpes from my ex. I didn't  bother getting an STDs check up until I saw some rashes on my genital. I went to the doctor the following day. He looked at it and said it might be herpes. For precautions, the doctor wrote a prescription herpes medication and cream for me. So far everything seem normal again and I don't have anymore of these rashes. Now my question is, can I still have a risk of transfering this STDs to my new partner eventhough these  rashes or herpe appear on my genital?
