Herpeselect and/or Western Blot

I recently had unprotected sex with someone who is HSV 2+ ...pretty sure she wasn't having an outbreak at the time.  I tested negative (herpeselect) at 11 weeks for HSV 2 and positive for HSV 1.  The place doesn't provide specific values just less than 0.91.  I have always gotten cold sores so the HSV 1 + is not a surprise.  I am now at 16 weeks...should I get another Herpeselect test, western blot, both or neither?  I am married and this was out of my relationship so I want to be as sure as possible.  I don't think I have had any symptoms to mention but it sounds like symptoms often go unnoticed so I'm not sure. Thanks.

Just an update for those who follow my WB came back HSV 1 positive, HSV 2 Negative.  That was 16 weeks so that and an 11 week Herpeselect and I think its time to move on!

Well I got the WB done today after all...I'm one day short of 16 weeks, we'll see what happens.

Last comment I promise!  It looks like I won't be able to WB.  Should I still feel confident in a 16 week negative per Herpselect?

I'm a little confused...what do you mean the opposite might be true?  I called UW and they said I need doctors order to get the western blot test done...not true?

Want to clarify one thing, there are mixed professional opinions that having hsv1 helps prevent getting hsv2 but the opposite might be true. You can go to an indepentant lab for it like lab core but for a quck and easy finger prick you can have the biokit which is hsv2 specific but the wb is the best.

Do i need Doctor's orders to get WB?  I've tested negative thus far not sure where I could get that.

Yes, at 16 weeks would be conclusive and the WB is the better test.

Sorry Life, are you saying that HSV1 helps prevents contracting HSV2 but it also can slow the process in showing antibodies therefore the 16 weeks?

If my 16 weeks comes back negative is that conclusive? also, is the western blot or herpeselect better when someone has an underlying hsv1 virus or does it not matter?

Since you have hsv1 you have antibodies that would help prevent contacting hsv2 so it would take a bit longer to show antibodies.

Thanks for the feedback.  Not sure I understand your comment about..."as you have HSV1, then 16 weeks is recommended but few people seroconvert after 12 weeks"  Can you explain?

As you have HSV1, then 16 weeks is recommended but few people seroconvert after 12 weeks.

Westernblot is only a little more accurate than Herpeselect for HSV2 but under the circumstances with someone to protect, it is a worthwhile consideration.

So would you recommend a follow up test now at 16 weeks?  I heard the western blot was best? Or I could just do another herpeselect? Thoughts?

Hi 12 weeks is the golden number for testing but 11 would give you a good heads up and if your negative at 11 you would in all odds be negative at 12.
