herpies simplex 1 in the urethra

I am 22 year old man. a little over a month ago month ago I began feeling a painful itchy sensation when i urinated. i had unprotected sex a few days prior so i was very concerned. I went to my doctor and took urine test and blood test which came back negative. my doctor then swabbed the inside of urethra and tested for genital herpies, the test came back positive for genital herpies simplex 1. he put on a 7 day dose of an antibiotic and gave me hydrocortisone cream to apply to my penis head to relieve irritation, after the 7 period of time the symptoms subsided but never disappeared 100%. earlier this week; about 3 weeks after i finished the initial dose of antibiotics i went back to doctors with the following symptoms, I have still been feeling a slight itchy sensation near the end of my penis shaft when urinating, the tip of my penis directly below the end of urethra has been itchy especially when rubbing against clothing also a fairly small pimple like bump has appeared on my shaft (I am unsure if this is due to my symptoms or something trivial just which is just increasing my paranoia). all these symptoms are like my initial symptoms i had about 5 weeks ago yet not nearly as bad. the doctor put me on another dose of the same 7 day antibiotics. I have also been using hydrocortisone cream again as a topical treatment on the tip of my penis head as to decrease irritation. I am always have been so careful when having sexual intercourse and usually wear condoms (besides the intoxicated mistake which lead to all this). This has been stressing me out to unexplainable measures and it has been concerning on a daily basis for the last month, and I have a completely diminished sex drive. Was the treatment provided by my doctor appropriate? Should i go get a second diagnosis from another doctor? Is it normal that these symptoms are still present over a month after they initially appeared? Could something have been overlooked and further tests needed? Is there any additional treatment I should get to help me recover sooner? could the hydrocortisone cream be contributing to the irritation since i am applying it to the very tip of my urethra? How much longer should i expect these symptoms to be bothering me? I heard that herpies simplex 1 is much less virulent in the genital area and may never com back, is this true? if so why is taking so long to for the symptoms to go away? Once the symptoms are fully gone for awhile is safe to receive oral sex again (without a condom)?  Looking far into the future since i am single as of right now, if i do find myself a consistent sexual partner what should i do, if the symptoms haven't arose again should i tell her about it? Will it ever be safe to have unprotected sex if i don't have any symptoms present?
- please help me wrap my head around what is going on, it my senior year of college and this is directly effecting my school work due to the constant stress it has caused me. I have basically isolated myself from everything fun and have been absolutely disgusted with myself for allowing this to happen. I really need a better explanation to why I am still experiencing symptoms, what to expect/do?
please help me out,
Thank you so much

Did you have oral sex or not at the time? if not then it had to be from the vaginal. its just odd due to  the location. Yes a recent infection would not show up until at least 4 weeks from exposure in a blood test and that would be a low positive.
You could also be causing it not to heal by constant touching but as mentioned, the inside of the penis is full of nerves and some nerve damage may have occured and nerve damage takes much longer to heal than skin damage like a cut on the finger. Its full of nerves unlike a finger..
Yes antibiotics only affect bacterias and such not a virus. Its the sample with the common cold virus, antibiotics would not cure that either, just has to run its life cycle.
Im leaving for the weekend so i wont be back till monday if you have any other questions

Hi, first of all antibiotics will not kill, cure or subsite any virus and herpes is virus. It will have no effect on it. If you contracted hsv1 in the tip of your penis then you must have had oral sex from that person at the time and this is how you would have gotton it. Really not possible from vaginal for inside the tip as more common would be on the shaft.
Since  the blood test came back negative and the swab positive it would mean a recent infection.
One good thing is that if a person is to have herpes in the genital area, hsv1 is the best as rarely sheds and rarely breaks out after the first one.

It is possible that the hydo cream is causing the tip irritation and its also possible that a herpes sore is still healing as inside the uretha is a very delicate place.
Just work with your doctor about this and maybe get a second opinion and for sure a blood test at the 8 week mark as a good indicator.

Also you will need to disclose this to all future partners and they can contract it from you but it is a low risk but they still should know so they can make the choice.
You will be just fine and is no big life changing ordeal.

It is really odd because i am positive i had received any oral sex in at least a 2 week period prior to this occurring. So this is normal and the time of healing is normal? Did it now show up in the initial blood test because i had just gotten the virus? and also the antibiotic medication he has me on has absolutely no effect on the virus?
positive I had NOT received**  (sorry typo)
