IgG test results - please help

I don't know when or if I was exposed to HSV1 or 2, but two weeks ago I developed a lesion on my lower lip, right on the lip line.  It didn't go through the classic cold sore stages, but after a week of it not going away I decided to see a doctor.  My doctor didn't think it was a cold sore (said if it was that it wasn't active), but I requested the IgG type-specific antibody test to make sure.  I got my results back today and they were very low negatives for both types (HSV1: 0.10, HSV2: 0.05).  I have read on these forums that IgG test results cannot be confirmed for certain until four months after possible exposure.

Is it safe for me to assume that I have never been exposed to either type, or is it possible that I was tested one-week into a small outbreak and still had such low levels of antibodies?  Thank you for your help.

I haven't had any new partners.  My wife has never shown any symptoms.  I was only concerned b/c she is pregnant and I didn't want to risk hurting our baby.

How long before you started with this symptom had you kissed someone or performed oral sex on them?

Your provider didn't think that this was a cold sore so try not to get overly obsessed about this.
