I requested the preventitive health branch of our aid station do full STD screens during my checkup, as my girlfriend has been positive since we met, so I am certain that I have not been infected. Thank you very much for your answers and the link you gave me. I appreciate your support too, It's always good to see it. CAN'T WAIT TO COME HOME!!!!!

Mac,
I would also like to say Thank you for your service to our country. I am glad to hear you are coming back home. I can't wait for some of the guys around here to come back (near one of the largets Army ADA bases myself and go to a military church and brother is a marine.).
I agree with Grace. I hope she says yes!
they don' t routinely check for herpes in the armed services. check to make sure you actually had hsv testing done as part of your routine testing.
if she is on daily suppressive therapy, your risk is low in general of contracting hsv2 from her. If you avoid sex when she has anything going on genitally, use condoms and she stays on suppressive therapy, your risk from vaginal sex is low - 1%/year on average. We don't have the same stats for oral sex but suppressive therapy reduces shedding of the virus and the risk of contracting hsv2 orally in general are already very, very low. If you want added protection, use barrier protection for oral sex too. totally up to the two of you. could you contract hsv2 orally? Yes you can. Are you likely to? No.
the herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com is a terrific resource for the both of you for more reading.
best wishes and I hope she says yes if you ask :)

She is positive for HSV2 and is taking a generic form of Valtrex. I am active duty US Army, and as of my last helth check I am clean. My last health screen was 2 months ago, and I have not been with my girlfriend for over 6 months as I am currently deployed to Iraq. We come home next month so this has been a big worry of mine, as she waited on me the entire deployment and I am thinking of marrying her. Thanks for any answers.
Mac
does she have hsv1 or hsv2?
how does she treat her herpes?
have you been tested or just assume you don't have herpes?
