Question about HSV1 to HSV1

Hi,
I was recently diagnosed with HSV1 through oral sex.  My question is, if my partner was diagnosed with oral HSV1, what are the affects of us being together?  Can we have an active sex life if he is oral and I am vaginal type 1?
Can I transmit something to him orally? I am hoping for an answer, as he has vowed never to have sex again.  Is there a way to stay together without infecting each other in different ways?

Thank you. Yes, It was a recent infection with me not having it in my system according to the Igg.
So, what do you recommend, condoms and no oral sex? I think we are both scared to death and unsure of what to do with each other.
What are our limitations? Do we just spend the rest of our lives using condoms, or are we doomed to just hugging?  Sounds stupid, but this is so new to both of us.

Are you inferring that you have recently become infected from this partner?

Once your immune system is motoring along after a few months it will be very difficult for you to become infected orally, but not impossible.

The same goes for him, he is very unlikely to become infected genitally due to the antibodies in his system, plus the fact that most women with genital HSV1 shed the virus very infrequently and many do not have outbreaks.

This is not a pleasant thing to happen to you, but even more so now there is no reason not to be business as usual with this partner, you are not HSV matched and have way less concerns than the many couples who are.
