I am so confused by my LabCorps results. I was informed on 12/19/08 that I have herpes. I have never had any symptoms, use protection and take precaution. My partner and I had a blood panel completed (with all negative results) for STDs so we could have unprotected sex. We have been sexually intimate since August 2008. I have had no other partners but cannot confirm his side. He claims a girl gave him oral sex and I think she may have had HSV1. But reading the forum, HSV 1 cannot develop into HSV 2.
My primary care doc provided the following lab results:
HSV 1 and 2-specific Ab, IgG
HSV 1 IgG, Type Spec 2.94 High (positive range is >1.09)
HSV 2 IgG, Type Spec 1.75 High (positive range is >1.09)
; coinfection with HSV-1 cannot be excluded without type specific
HSV, IgM I/II Combination <0.91
I have had chicken pox as a kid and fever blisters (cold sores) in the past so I was not surprised by the positive Simplex 1. However, I am getting a second opinion on HSV-2 b/c I am asymptomatic and the 'score' is so low. The only vaginal issues I have ever had were yeast and bacteria-related. No history of STDs ever. I am confused. Do I have genital herpes? I am not sure what tests LabCorp used but I know they were type-specific looking at the lab printout. However, there have also been reports of the LabCorp in my location recently using a bad testing batch from Trinity products for herpes IgG testing that produced false positives. I am freaking out and scared. Can you provide some answers or guidance?
