Herpes Symptoms??

Hi all,

I'm stuck abroad and away from a clinic for another two days, so would like some advice regarding some symptoms I've experienced and what to do about my partner.

A little over a week ago I found some hair follicle lumps on penis which bled during sex with my gf of 9 months. An ex had mentioned a herpes "scare", which was ultimately considered negative, but mentioned she had slept with someone who may have had HSV2. Having received no symptoms myself, tested negative and only used condoms since, I forgot all about it (stupid I know, this was around 2 years ago). Yet these lumps reminded me of these issues and speaking to my ex (and discovering these details) sent me into a huge panic.

Then, 3/4 days ago, in the height of worrying that I may have herpes, I ironically felt a burning sensation in my pubic area, followed but a small scratch like rash above my left thigh. This cropped up after swimming and using a jacuzzi. Though the scratch (with small bumps) has begun to fade, the burning has remained (though not as intensely). I'm pretty sure I had a fever for the worst day of burning. These symptoms seem consistent with HSV2 and I am terrified that I have unwittingly passed on HSV2 to my gf during this time, having been asymptomatic from the beginning. We have had sex without a condom fairly often.

I'm terrified as I'm unable to confirm anything from where I am, and even back home they rely on cultures on visible symptoms, dismissing blood tests if you just have the fear, like me.

Where to go from here??

G

Yes, it's possible for the point of contact to be the thigh, or anywhere on the body. However, if something other than an area with a mucous membrane, you would need to have had a portal - a cut, wound, tear, abrasion, etc. - at that spot, for the virus to enter.

I still sometimes have flu-like or cold-like symptoms during my HSV reactivations, so it is not true that these are limited to the first infection.

Do stop worrying until you can see a doctor. A lot of things mimic herpes. It's possible your symptoms are due to other things - heat rash, allergy, bug bites, etc.

Just test for herpes to rule this out.

What condition do you think it could be? Intense burning in pubic region and inner thigh/scrotum, with scratch-like lesion... possible fever and run-down feeling, loss of appetite. Other than herpes, I have no idea what those symptoms could be indicative of...

Hi Life,

Ah ok, I've never had a point of contact symptom - at least not to my knowledge. Is is impossible for the thigh to be the point of contact!? I've certainly never experienced anything like the crotch burning or fever / run down feeling in my life.

The agony is that I am unable to take a test for 2 days, by which time the scratch could yield a false negative. I cannot see how this could be a primary outbreak, given that I've only been with my gf for the last 2-10 days and she has never experienced symptoms. From my history I seem the more likely candidate...

It would be strange to be obsessing about herpes and then to experience my first OB, all away from sexual contact... (last time was follicle bleeding around 12/13 days ago)...

Thanks for your views, struggling to make sense of this and have distressed my partner a fair bit dropping this on her. I love her and would be devastated to hurt her. She tried to be tested today but they refused without visible symptoms, so she's in an anxious limbo. We'll have to re-think our sex life by the looks of it, if she sticks with me.

Hi, one your mixing 2 things. You mention a rash on your thigh which is consistant with a old infection as a new one would be at point of contact like your penis shaft or your pubic mound area. Then you mention fever and this is consistant with a new infection but as mentioned the outbreak would not have been on the thigh. Only testing would confirm but from what your mentioning are not consistant with herpes breakouts
