Negative test
Last week I woke up with itchy bumps on the left side of my buttocks. I thought it was an insect bite at first. They looked like six red bumps and the skin was hard. The next day they looked white. I went the doctor the day after I noticed the bump and he said it looked like herpes zoster or fever blisters as he called them. He did a swab test. They did not hurt at all even when he swabbed them and he swabbed hard. He gave me a prescription for an antiviral though. I got the results and it came back negative for HSV. How much should I trust these results? I was tested within 26 hours after the bumps appeared. I did not get a blood test. I've never even had a cold sore, but I heard those hurt.
herpes zoster is shingles and not fever blisters.
at this point the best thing to do is to get a type specific herpes igg blood test and then repeat it in 3 or 4 months. if you have a regular partner, they too need the blood test done.

Thank you for your reply. I have a doctor's appointment Thursday and will ask for a blood test. I can't find anything that looks like this other than herpes. I thought shingles were supposed to hurt. This did not hurt at all and only itched for a couple of days. The scab fell off and left a red circle.
it could be many things going on including bacterial infections and dermatological conditions too.
