No symptoms for years

My question is, can herpes stay dormant for 1-2 years? My potential exposure is last 2015, dont see any symptoms until now, strep throat for months, ive only tested hiv it came back negative, can i carry herpes that long and not having symptoms, another question, what are the other ways of transmission of herpes that is not sexually

YES! The majority of individuals infected with HSV show no discernible symptoms.  These individuals are responsible for the majority of new infections. Unsure on the exact statistics, but it's something like 8/10 people with the virus don't know they have it. I would strongly recommend getting an antibody test as soon as possible.

Sharing things like chapstick..etc
Thats really about it. You will read sharing drinks ir silverware but this would be extremely rare and more of a theoretical risk than a real world risk. Most people contract hsv1 orally from a realitive when they're a very young child.
