Please help, can I possibly have a false positive?

I recently went to go visit my doctor, after testing, the results came back I had Chlamydia. I had never had a symptom and my partner of 2 years came back negative. My doctor said that was common and not to worry about it. 3 weeks later I receive a phone call and they told me I came back positive for HSV 2 igG with a 2.83. Again I have never felt any sort of symptom. I have never had a sore or blister which I read can possibly be common. Unfortunately my doctors office wasn't helpful and made me feel like I was delusional by asking about the accuracy of the test. My partner was also tested when we first found out I had Chlamydia and his results for HSV 2 were also negative. We have been together for the last 2 years and about 1 year ago started having unprotected sex. Is there a possibility that with a igG of 2.83, this could be a false positive? I came back negative on HSV1. Can someone please help? What is recommended? My doctors office unfortunately wasn't helpful.

I'm curious myself .....in my country there is no western bolt im 1.58 on the igg for hsv2 ............so guess i will never know
My results came back as undetermined. I'm truly disappointed and confused. I've never had a lesion or blister. My doctor doesn't know anything about this test so he wasn't any help and told me he didn't know what that meant.
Sorry for the late response. My doctor's office stated their fax machine was broken, I called for two weeks straight trying to get them the call the university so have them refaxed. Of course still after 6 phone calls they kept saying they would and they never did. I had to wait for the results in the mail.
Indeterminate*
Dyingslowly I'd look into Western Heights. The doctor there has alot of information on her forum. You can even go through them to get the test done. She recommended that I retest in 3 months. The university of Washington recommend the same thing and stated it'll likely happen that I might be indeterminate again and if so that I can consider that a negative. I will wait 3 months but this time go through Western Heights, I'll pay the extra money and save myself the headache of dealing with that doctor again.

I honestly think you said you had one blister ask yourself if you got the blister before your current boy friend reason why he could be negative and you are not

I've never had any symptoms actually. But my doctor said that's normal.
So your western bolt results were negative ??
Pending results.

I'm redoing the western blot test. I had some problem with the shipping so I have to wait for another kit. How you holding up?
So they wouldn’t process it? I’ve been doing ok. Lucky to have such a wonderful bf to support me. I’m not thinking about it everyday and it doesn’t consume every free minute and thought I have anymore so I guess that’s progress.
Just shipped my test again today. If all goes well with the shipping this time and it doesn't get lost again, it'll be in tomorrow!
Geez lost in mail?! Just what you needed. Good luck dear! Thinking about you!

Wow that’s crazy! I thought I was the only one! So you second test was negative right? Or is .90 and above concerned positive for that test? When are you sending yours in? Did you tested just as a routine thing or did you have any symptoms that made you go get tested? Yes, I’ll definitely let you all know. I’m praying it’s good news I can share. Please keep me updated on you as well!
No positive on that scale was anything greater than .90. I got a 10.10 on that IGG test. I went back less than a week after that test and had the Herpeselect test done and got a barely positive at 1.3. Weird. No symptoms ever. Unfortunately I had a not consensual situation happen and and went in for testing 2 weeks after that. When I went back to the doctor 6 months later they suggested I do all testing again to be sure nothing has popped up since then. That’s when I found out. I don’t think they did the IGG of Igm test before when I went 2 weeks after. I did still have one cut on me from what happened and they swabbed it, said it was nothing, but since I was hysterical they did it anyways to put my mind at ease. That came back as nothing. So I called UW today, pretending to be my doctor and found out they sent my test results to them by fax on the 30th. They wouldn’t give me results by phone. I told you my doctors office is terrible about communicating anything with me. I called them after I learned they’ve already received my results and of course there office is closed today. Even when I leave a message, they never call back. I called once for 3 weeks before anyone called me back.
Clarification that cut was from the rape way back several months ago. I’ve never had any symptoms. Ugh I have knots in my stomach I feel I’m not going to be lucky. Reading you comments since you’ve got back a negative result after the positive, I highly doubt you have it at all! Wishing you all the best. My results were an extremely high positive and 6 days later a barely positive, that’s why I’m thinking it might not turn out good for me. :(
Positive :(
Kygirlbbn1 I'm sorry to hear your news. It makes me nervous. I haven't been able to sleep nor eat well. Thank you for helping me. I ordered the kit and I'm waiting for them to send it. If I may ask what did your igG come back on the WB test? Keep your head up.
Thank you. I’m just going to have to deal with it now. I feel really good about yours though! Please let me know when you get yours so we can cheer :) it doesn’t come back win number values on the WB. You just get a positive or negative and nothing else. I actually had a copy of it in my mailbox when I got home so I saw the actual report my doctor received too.

Yes the CDC recommends you get a confirmatory test if the value is under 3.5. I’m in the same boat as you, found out I tested in the low positive range 1.3 for Hsv2 and 1.0 for HSV1. I was in total shock. My bf went and got tested, we have had unprotected sex for months and he was negative. I got the western blot done which is the gold standard for hsv testing and am anxiously awaiting the results. I hope I’m on the those who have a false positive as well. I’ve never had any symptoms either and I’m ever well aware of any changes in my body. I suggest you seek out the western blot as well. I think I read over 50% of people get false positives with a low positive range of 1.1-3.5. I believe the chances are even greater the lower the index number. Wishing you the best! I know how devastating it is to receive this news. I lost 5 pounds in a week after hearing these results.

Thank you. Yes it is very devastating and sometimes the doctors office doesn't help. They gave me a sarcastic response when I implied about a false positive. I'm in the process of finding somewhere were I can get the WB. Do you now if your igG goes down, is that also a possibility of a false positive? I haven't found much on a situation like that.  Good luck to you. Please keep me updated, I wish you the best of luck as well during this situation.
I know what you mean. My doctor office isn’t the best either. I actually viewed my lab results online and it took my doctor 10 days after they received the results to call and tell me. Like thanks...I already figured out what the results mean among crying nonstop for and not eating for the past 10 days! Ugh. So actually my first test results were an IGG too and it showed HSV1- 1.6, HSV2- 10.10! I was in denial and went less than a week later and got retested and it came back equivocal for 1 and dropped down to 1.3 for 2! I spoke to the people at the University of Washington and they suggested I go ahead and get the test. My doctor had no clue what this test was or knew anything about false positives. There’s actually a really good thread on here that talks about people who got confirmatory testing by the western blot. That’s what gave me a slim hope by results might come back negative. Or at least I’m praying they do. So I just ordered the kit from UW and they shipped it to me free of charge. Then I went back to my doctor and told her to fill out the form I wanted this test done. She did with so with no problems, then I had to go to a lab to get blood drawn since they don’t draw blood anymore at my doctors office. I heard it is normal for the index value to change somewhat when you test again. However, the dramatic change like mine, isn’t normal, it shouldn’t change like that! I went from off the charts to barely positive in a 6 day span. Makes no sense. Anyways, check out this thread. This made me decide to get the WB even though I’ve already accepted that I probably do have this and just wont even show symptoms. However, I’m going to continue to hope and pray!

Kygirlbbn, did you go through westoverheights.com to get the western blot. Or how did you get it?
I just called the UW and got them to ship me a box with everything you need to get your blood drawn. They include a form that you have to get your doctor to fill out. If your doctor draws blood there, then you can have them draw it. For me, I had to get my doctor to fill out the form, then go to an express lab the following day to get my blood drawn and spun. They give you an ice pack included in the kit. After you get your blood drawn, you take it to UPS or FedEx and ship it in the box they sent you with the ice pack overnight. I live in a small town and was surprised that was relatively easy to find a lab that would draw the sample and give it back to me to ship. The kit includes a letter for your doctor explaining the test and a letter for the lab with directions on how to do everything.
You can also visit Westover clinics website and become a phone patient of theirs. They will do the paperwork for you if you don’t want to go to your doctor again, but it was more expensive to do it that way and my doctor didn’t give me any problems with requesting the test
Thank you for your help kygirlbbn1, I called yesterday and ordered my kit. Any news on your results?
Ugh not yet. It will officially be 3 weeks next Thursday. If I haven’t heard by then, I’ll call myself and pretend to be my doctor’s office. I was hoping to know by the end of this week.
