HHV-8 is a completely separate virus from HSV1 and HSV2.
If the infection was 8 years ago, you will test positive for the HSV type that you were infected with, no question.
That's what he means yes. You got HSV tests. The problem is, those are IgM tests and IgM antibodies come and go. IgG antibodies should always be present (4 months or so after infection) unless you are taking antivirals.
Get HSV2 IgG tests and you'll see a positive result by now for sure.
....unless of course, you're taking Valtrex.
The one says herpes 8 IgG. Is that what you are referring to or was that not testing for HSV1 and 2?

This is the wrong testing. You must get IgG antibodies type specific for HSV1 and HSV2. IGM is no good.
Herpes 8 IgG Ab, IFA SEE BELOW
--------------TESTS-------------RESULTS--------UNITS--REF. RANGE---
HHV-8 IgG, IFA <1:20
REFERENCE RANGE: 80% of
KS patients and approximately 30% of
HIV-seropositive individuals without KS, but less
than 5% of healthy blood donors.
This test was developed and its performance
characteristics have been determined by Focus
Diagnostics. Performance characteristics refer to
the analytical performance of the test.
Herpes Smplx IgM FA Ser <1:10 titer <1:10
HSV 2 IGM SCREEN <1:10 titer <1:10
HSV 1 and HSV 2 share many cross-reacting antigens. Elevated titers
to both HSV 1 and HSV 2 may represent crossreactive HSV antibodies
rather than exposure to both HSV 1 and HSV 2.
Results for this test are for research purposes only by the assay's
manufacturer. The performance characteristics of this product have
not been established. Results should not be used as a diagnostic
procedure without confirmation of the diagnosis by another medically
established diagnostic product or procedure.

Human herpesvirus-8 (HHV-8), also known as
Kaposi's Sarcoma Herpesvirus (KSHV), is found in
most cases of KS, including classic KS as well as
AIDS-related KS. HHV-8 has also been detected in
B-cell lymphomas in the abdominal cavity. IgG
antibodies recognizing HHV-8 are found in >80% of
KS patients and approximately 30% of
HIV-seropositive individuals without KS, but less
than 5% of healthy blood donors.

Also, exactly what blood tests are you having. It needs to be for IgG antibodies. Can you post a sample set of results?
Are cultures definitely being types as HSV2, or just generic HSV and assumed to be HSV2?
Are you having HSV1 testing as well?
