Herpes

I just got diagnosed with genital herpes because I had an outbreak two weeks ago. I had something that looked exactly like it but was much worse 4 months and my blood test was negative then. Is it possible that this was the first herpes outbreak?

If you have a positive swab for HSV and this positive blood test, then you will need to assume you have a genital HSV1 infection most likely the result of receiving oral sex.

The IGG test is positive for HSV 1. I just got the hard copy of the test results this morning.

I would obtain a blood test for IgG antibodies, type specific for HSV1 and HSV2.

I've never had an oral cold sore. My doctor 4 months ago decided to diagnose over the phone and never looked at the sores due to the blood test not picking up anything.

I am a bit concerned that your testing may not be accurate. Swabs of lesions for HSV are best, I do not know why they didn't do this.
It is critical you get the test you had a few months ago meaning the exact type of test and result. You are looking for IgG antibody test type specific for HSV1 and HSV2. Same goes for the current test. If it wasn't this test then your status previously is indeterminate.
I assume you have never had oral cold sores?

The swab was taken for a bacterial or yeast infection. The blood test was the only test I had run for HSV. The blood test now shows positive for HSV they didn't tell me which type. Should I ask which type I have? I've been given anti-virals in case I have another flare up.

Are you are sure the first swab was checked for HSV? I think you were infected 4 months ago regardless. Was the swab correctly typed for HSV1 and HSV2? A blood test taken now should reveal antibodies for the type you have.

I had three sexual partners at that time, I was with one for years with no symptoms. The other was one night and we wore a condom. The third has a long history of sexual partners but he thought he was careful. The blood test was immediately after the sores showed up. There was a urine test to check for other stds and it was negative. A vaginal swab was taken with negative results of stds. I was diagnosed with herpes from a culture swab taken from the sores.

Some more information needed here.
What was your sexual history leading into the first possible outbreak 4 months ago?
How long after symptoms did you have a blood test? What test was it?
How have you been diagnosed this time?
