Herpetic urethritis?

hello everyone.  I am a 38 year old male.  I was diagnosed with herpes 8 years ago and at the beginning was very brutal for me.  Once I was given 1 gram of valtrex daily it has been much better.  When  I DID have an outbreak I would seem to get urethritis with it everytime.  Fast forward to now.  I have not had an outbreak that I have visibly seen in probably 2-3 years.  I do however get some sensations when I feel one may be coming but they never do.  Now over a year ago or so I get what feels like urethritis after I pee.  During peeing does not hurt or anything……it seems perfect normal.  After I am done peeing I get this pain (hard to describe the pain really) at the head of my penis (about ¼ inch inside).  A few minutes after I am done peeing this feeling really kicks in.  It is a super discomforting feeling.  Sometimes it almost feels like I need to pee more (this is NOT a uti as I have had a couple of uti’s when I first got herpes and I know what they feel like).  Is it possible to have an outbreak on the inside of my penis while not having an outbreak on the outside?  If it is not possible then what else could possibly be going on?  This used to last a week maybe 2 while having n outbreak but last time I had this it lasted 2-3 months then went away.   Last time I went to a urologist who wanted to treat it as prostatitis and I had antibiotics for 40 days.  At the end of the 40 days I really didn’t feel much better.  Then a couple weeks after that it went away on its own.  After 6 months of not having it it is back.  It has been a week and the pain after peeing is back.  Sometimes I pee and it gets really bad like I wanna crawl out of my own body.  Sometimes I pee and it isn’t TOO bad.  I know if I go back to the urologist he will wanna scope me.  I had this done 8 years ago and it was the worst feeling ever and I really don’t wanna have to do it again if I can avoid it.  Any ideas on what this could be?  I have been leaning herpes outbreak inside but everywhere I read said I would see an outbreak outside as well.  (please do not say its chemical related or anything because it is not) thank you so much for your time on this, I greatly appreciate it.

Yes definitely as are current outbreak, very rare. They tend to only hurt whilst peering.

my third ever outbreak i got pins and needles pains inside the urethra (this was WITH an outside outbreak as well) I ended up getting a uti AND a prostate infection from that outbreak.  This is the reaosn i felt it must be an outbreak inside the urethra.  So you think it is super rare to have an outbreak inside the penis?

Very rarely as a recurrent outbreak 8 years after infection would you get a herpes lesion inside the urethra, particularly if the initial entry was the side of the penis.

I would confirm with a blood test or preferably a swab.

Thanks for the reply!  Well, I never had any actual tests.  That being said it was pretty obvious as the second outbreak I had was everywhere and when I went in to the doctor he immediately said it was herpes.  The initial outbreak was very small (which I actual read is supposed to be the worst outbreak?) and was on the left side of penis.  The outbreaks that followed were generally on the left side.  I have not had blood tests to confirm it that I was aware if heh.

Let's start with the original diagnosis of herpes. How was this done? Swab, blood, results? Where was the initial outbreak? Have you had type confirmed?
