Reading Lab results for HSV 2

I am quite confused at my recent lab results 2011, compared to lab results in 2007.  (both of which I got today)
The 2011 results read:
hsv 1 igg neg
hsv 2 igg positive; recommend repeat testing in 2 weeks.
A skin bx of affected area (pubic area only) was sent but not tested/cancelled.
Interpretation: neg igg antibodies to hsv 1 or hsv 2 were detected;. equivocal: recommend repeat test; postive 1gg antibodies to hsv 1 or hsv 2 detected.
2007 (not skin bx/no break out-serum test only) hsv 1  igg neg .90 (index) ; hsv igg pos 7.10 (index)
I'm very confused..if I had HSV in 2007 I was never told, also until 2011 I never had any skin symptoms. Thanks

if you need help with your partners test results, just post them here.

at this point you know what you have and can take educated approaches to treating it. once you know your partner's status, you can decide together what precautions to take together too.

Grace, thanks again for all your help! I think the worst part of this is not knowing you have it, not knowing how long or where you got and last but not least, that there is no cure. Guess there could be worse things. I'm trying to take a positive approach..because in reality I can't do anything more! :)

Have a great week.

swabs of active lesions have false negative issues, not false positive issues. any swab of active lesions needs done within 48 hours of the appearance of symptoms.

Grace, thanks again for your help. He says he went and got the labs and his provider told him there were no labs for this, however, he said they did do the labs after he told his provider I was positive for HSV2. He has not gotten the results yet. I hope he doesn't have this, but, from what I read, it would seem more likely he does.

So should I still get the prc swab if I have an another breakout? If so, what time line should this be done to prevent a false/positive? Since my labs are showing I am positive for this. They did do a bx of the lesion but for whatever reason it was not tested. My lab friend told me if it was already in the healing phase it would not be accurate to test. This was the case, meaning it was already in the healing phase.

Thanks

it's really hard to predict if he has it or not.   when you know you are infected, you can take simple precautions to reduce the risk of transmission to a partner. not know you are infected and you are more likely to have sex during symptoms so the risk of transmission to a partner goes up :(

A pcr swab for herpes is the best test you can get done on active symptoms.

Hi Grace,

Thanks for your response/advice. I'm quite frustrated learning that I was positive in 2007 and was never advised of this, esp since I worked in the same clinic with the DR and I self referred for STD testing post break up with BF (not current one) in early 2007.  I'm  also still confused why I never had any sx/fever in 2007; this occurred in 2011. Unfortunately I can not locate the original DR since it was a military base and everyone rotates to different locations.

Will get another skin culture if and when this occurs again. Contacted any old military friend who is a lab/cyto tech and she said it would be best to get the culture done on a specific test called a TREK..not sure of the spelling. She use to read these tests and do the briefings for STDs in the military.

Did contact my partner (who I presummed gave this to me) now I'm confused since it may not have been him after all. What's the chances he doesn't have it?

Thanks

no reason for any further testing since you had a positive in 07 and your latest testing was also hsv2.  it's unfortunate that your provider never informed you of your positive hsv2 results back in 07 and I'd certainly make a complaint about that to the clinic manager!

next time you get any rashes in the genital area, you can be seen within 48 hours of their appearance for a lesion culture to confirm if they are herpes related or not to try to figure what is herpes and what isn't down yonder.

your off and on partner should also get tested to see what their status is.

The 7.10 index for the igg hsv 2 was only for 2007. The print out did not have a break down of this in the 2011 report.

Hi Grace..sorry most of my post did not post , here it is again:

My 2007 Igg for HSV 2 was 7.10 (index) (I ran a comprehensive STD test post break up with boyfriend in 2007) the hsv 1  igg was less than .90. I had not physical sx at this time or ever.

In Jan 2011 had sx of redness, itching, some break outs (3 times since Jan) which I thought was psorisis since I have a long hx of this in the scalp area and b/w the buttocks.

The results from the serum tests only state: hsv 1 igg neg (negative) and hsv 2 igg postive  H (negative). The interpretation states: neg igg antibodies to hsv 1 or hsv 2 were detected. Patient is presumed not to have  a previous hsv 1 or hsv 2 infection.  Equivocal: recommend repeat testing with a new specium (a skin specium was taken but this lab was cancelled).  Postive: igg antibodies to hsv 1 or hsv 2 detected.

I do not and never have had mouth sores/blisters etc. My mother has a hx of this. Until Jan this year I have never had any redness/itching (this is only in the pubic area). My last sexual contact was Dec 27 (someone I've been with on and off for 6 years none one else during this time). He states he has never had any outbreaks of any kind (mouth/genital). My provider was out of town but called and told me I have hsv 2 and have given me meds for this.  If I had hsv 2 in 2007 my provider never advised me of this. I got a print out from the lab (have friends that work in this lab~~I use to work in the hospital where my testing was done, in Radiology)..  Thanks any help would be appreciated.
