Symptoms for 3 months and no relief in sight

Hi all, I have a huge problem. Back on May 15 I had unprotected sex with a girl I just met at a hotel, it was a huge mistake on my part and wish I could take it back. Upon waking the next morning I had discomfort in my genital region but dismissed it due to irritation. However, as the day went on the discomfort grew until I was in pain by nightfall. The skin on my penis was really hurting. So I monitored it for a few days and the pain came and went and by day 3 I had redness on the top of the shaft of my penis so I freaked out and went to the Doc. They tested me for everything to include HSV and they gave me a oral dose azithromycin 1G and a shot of ceftriaxone 250mg just for peace of mind if it was bacterial. Within 7 days of exposure I had developed a very small open sore where the redness had been and it healed within a week, I showed the doc and she said it looked bacterial but did not take a swab and to let the antibiotics I took work their magic. Even though there was no sore my penis skin still felt very irritated constantly. About 2 weeks later I went back to the doc when the redness returned to the same spot and he said it was probably herpes and prescribed me Valtrex and told me to take 2 a day for 10 days then 1 a day after that. 2 Weeks after being on the Valtrex my penis developed a very painful red rash in about the same area as the original sore, it was very red and hurt badly, within a few days a single blister appeared, it was about the size of a tic tac, within 12 hours of appearance it broke and I developed a large open sore that was painful to the touch, I went to the doc and showed him (different doctor) Original STD testing all returned negative, so he tested me again for everything this being 7-8 weeks post exposure. So again I waited for results and the sore healed in a little over a week. The doc told me to begin taking Doxycycline 100 mg twice a day which I did with no results. Even with the sore gone I still have constant irritation and pain, especially while walking. The STD tests for week 7-8 came back as negative for everything. Very frustrating. Doc told me to continue Doxy and hopefully it will clear up, 4 weeks later my penis skin in the same area becomes bright red again and the pain intensifies, note that there is a constant red spot in that area. Within a few days it fades and returns to the dull red spot with constant irritation. I am at my wits end. Can anyone help? I'm sorry for the long post just wanted to be thorough.

Sounds like your doing ok...the anxiety of the unknown is the biggest *****!

Just be sure that you DR does a full panel of STD's. Many things act similar. Hopefully it will pass and just end up being some random skin condition. Best to you!

Finally received my test results back today for my 13 weeks post exposure blood test and both HSV-1 & 2 are negative. Finally some light at the end of the tunnel, Doc had started me on 1G azithromycin a week for 4 weeks and said continue it until all symptoms go away. I'm already feeling better, still have some irritation but finally see light at the end of the tunnel.

Saw the doc again yesterday and he still says this doesn't look like herpes even with all the sypmtoms I describe and show him. He agreed to blood test again for HSV1 & 2 and this is at weeks 13 post exposure. Wish me luck that it's negative. Thanks

If the herpes test only shows positive post 3 months from exposure, then my partner had Herpes before he had unprotected sex with me.  I have had cold sores before and so knew about oral but have now tested positive for HSV 2.  Is it possible he has HSV 2 and gave it to me?

Redness yes. The blister could be anything. All you can do at this point is to follow up with the doctor and have the herpes test 3 months post exposur. To bad he did not do a culture of the lesion. If you have another one, have the doctor swabb it for a culture but it needs to be done within 48 hours after appearing.

Would a fungus explain the single blister and redness?

Hi, testing for herpes would be 3 months post exposure. Sometimes UTI,s are a bit hard to clear up and would need a follow up with your doctor. Topical skin irritations are more often from a fungus.
