Test Results

I recently got my test result for my STD testing. Everything came back negative except HSV 1 reading 5.75. My HSV 2 came back negative so what does this mean? Ive never had a break out, a cold sore, or anything?

The only thing you should worry about is keeping yourself happy.  HSV-1 is common that is why the doctor blew it off.  There are things that fall in the same family of viruses like chicken pox but the IGG test is testing for just the gG response for Herpes nothing else.  If you had an IGM test that would be a different case.  Though now its just good to move on and if you get a cold sore or what you may think is one avoid kissing and performing oral sex.  :-)

Hi Grace, so basically I don't need to go crazy about this because its a common thing. I mean the doctor didn't say anything about meds or anything. I  just wanted to make sure because the number seemed kinda high. I have been reading up on herpes and many viruses fall in the family like chicken pox, cold sores, and etc. I thought that was interesting, and like I said I was tested a long time ago and hsv1 was positive but I don't remember the numerical test result. So I'm just gonna guess I'm okay because the previous doctor didn't act like it was a problem either.
Thanks for you help Grace and Mistakeguy :)

most adults test + for hsv1 but most don't get obvious cold sores to know that they are infected with the virus. You really don't have any reason to assume your hsv1 isn't oral from the sounds of things.

Hi Grace, I get STD tested every year. But my gynecologist normally doesn't test for herpes she says unless you are having problems. I got tested by a different doctor and I didn't know that was on it. I do remember getting tested years ago and my old gyn mentioned that I had the antibody for HSV1 but she said is was common and probably fever blisters. But I have never had one and I definitely don't have anything going on below. I don't know?

why did you get tested in the first place? had you had a particular encounter you were concerned about or was this just a general screening?  if it was due to a particular encounter, how long prior to your testing had it been?

Thanks for the info.  Grace takes the weekened off some times and her responses maybe delayed.  If you don't hear anything by monday simply reply to your thread with a "bump" and she should get to it.  ;-)

Hi there, thanks so much for your response and input. The herpes test was a HSV 1 & 2 IGG. The results were HSV1 Positive: 5.75 and HSV2 Negative: <0.90. I would really appreciate it if you can get her to interpret these results.

Some people never remember having a cold sore in their life but still test postive for HSV-1.  Can you tell us was the test a igg test (should say like hsv-1 igg 5.75)?  I will let grace look at your results and tell you the status.  She is trained in reading the tests.
