Test results

4 years ago i had a culture done for herpes which came back positive, however 4 years later i had the igg to determine which type and the results came back negative on both 1 and 2, what does this really mean. Could the culture have been false, how could i not have anitbodies after all this time and be told i have it.

hi, the same thing that is happening to kimmie is also happening to me, im young, just 19, and i was diagnosed with genital hsv 1 when i was 17, i have only ever had one outbreak maybe 2, but the second was iffy, and i know i have it because i was diagnosed by swab . I recentlyhad my blood tested and i came back negative for both, hsv-1 and 2? how is that possible if my diagnoses is pretty new.

also i have read that genital hsv 1 never occurs again in half of people, if my second outbreak was actually an outbreak, will i get them every other year from now on? One doctor on this site says many people get 2 and never again, but others say 1 every other year, what is the actual info.

If you had a + lesion culture for herpes then you have herpes. I"m assuming they didn' t type it at the time to tell you if you have hsv1 or hsv2?

Chances are good that you have hsv1 genitally - even the best blood tests we have still miss 1 out of every 10 hsv1 infections.  You can either just assume that and when you get a recurrence be sure to see your provider immediately to get it cultured and typed or you can try having a herpes WB blood test done and see if it shows up on that.
