Tests

Hi,

My question is that I had some symptoms after sexual contact with some one. I did not have any sores/lesions but after reading the internet It looked like most of the symptoms for herpes.  I was completely freaked out.  I got tested (Blood) 7 wks after any possibility of exposure the IGM HSV2 showed 1.4 and the IGG showed negative...still worried I got re tested 10 weeks after IGG came up negative and the other test (not sure) for recent exposure showed Negative.  My question to you Is it safe to think that I do not have Genital herpes?  I am still alittle freaked out.  Please advise if I am in the clear or if there is still possibility I may have this.

It's unlikely that you have herpes since you are testing completely negative 10 weeks into things.

Yes you are right..I should never allow them to move on to the next patient until I am satisfied with my visit.  However, the reason for all of this was because as I mentioned before my body was out of wack and my GYN stated that the test I took which by the way the 10 week result was the following: Recent exposure - Negative (not sure what type of test) all I see next to the results is

HBSAg - Negative
ANTI-HC -Negative
RPR - Non Reactive
then the results for the IGG where the following

HSV1   0.10
HSV 2  0.12

Can I god forbid have this?  I read in another thread that it takes up to 4 mths for body to create antibodies is that true??  (I am praying that 10 weeks is enough) Just want to confirm that...

Thank you.

If your doctor is rushing you out, tell him (don't ask - tell) that you have questions, and you'd like him to stay for a few minutes so he can answer them.

This man is being paid (and nicely paid) to be your partner in health care.  If you had a question about your car, and your mechanic pushed you out, would you let him?

I did that once with a urologist, and his nurse gave me a thumbs up behind his back.  She told me after he left that he always does that with women, and that most women won't say anything, and then end up calling later to get clarification.  That's just a waste of time for all involved when you could have had the questions answered there.  If you have to, write down all the questions you have, and make sure you get answers you understand.

Ok...I will...

We see our doctors now a days and they rarely give us a min. or two after they have examined us.  They are too busy to provide us with a bit more information.

Thank you very much...your advice is TRULY appreciated..

There are zillions of other germs out there - it's not all just herpes. When we are intimate with someone we also usually kiss a lot which is the all time best way to swap germs!! Don't assume this is all herpes or even something std related. Follow up with your doctor to find out what is going on.

Well that makes me feel better believe it or not...

Since I continue to live with these doubts...and reading so much about this virus, especially where people do not get sores and dont even know they have this..

so I just did not want to fall into that category.

Last question, I read in another thread on here that a lady who did have herpes had lower back ache where her legs ached and arms..I have experienced that for the last month 1/2 and that was another reason why i was panicking...because I was scared when all of a sudden these things are happening to my body out of nowhere..all coincidentally after that sexual encounter.  I havent felt like myself.

I also want to thank you guys for taking time out of your day to provide us with medical advice.  These responses from you make a HUGE difference in someones life...

Ohh..Thank you so much for responding so quickly...

Please let me tell you why i have been so worried..
-5 days after sex (April 13) I had mild flu symptoms my body ached everywhere...
-2 weeks after(april 13) possible exposure I developed a horrible itch in my genital area/some discharge
-seemed like a severe yeast infection...the Dr. prescribed diflucan
-Behind my legs ached and butt ( I read the virus hides in the spinal area) so that freaked me out

Then when i went to the GYN for a follow up (Jun 17) thats when he gave me the blood test and stated that would show an accurate result.  Reading so much has made me question my results and makes me still worried....

I havent had sex since and yes I dont want to sound like a lunatic, but I guess I never found out why my body had all of those symptoms..after testing for all STD's and everything came up negative.  I still wonder.

My lower back still aches and I still fear maybe the test was wrong or something.

I believe I just need to know that by 10 weeks I would have received an accurate result..so that i can try moving on with my life.  I have been through so much trauma from this...

I also felt from reading other bulletins that it take longer to get an accurate result.
Please advise and thank you for the advise...

You had most of the symptoms of herpes but no sores or lesions. Sounds like you didn't have herpes symptoms then don't you think?

the igm herpes blood test shouldn't be done on you . It's inaccurate and not worthwhile.  Please read out herpes healthpage to learn more about why it's not indicated to be done.

10 weeks post exposure and still completely negative for herpes means it's not likely you have it. It's up to you if you think you need to continue testing or not.
