you shed from the area of obvious lesions as well as from the entire anal/genital tract with recurrences. in between you shed from the anal/genital tract periodically, sometimes all at the same time, sometimes from separate places.
one study showed that 70% of all herpes infections were transmitted when the infected partner didn't think that they had obvious symptoms . This is why we highly recommend suppressive therapy in discordant relationships, especially if the uninfected partner is a female of child bearing age.
Sorry i jus read that again and you answered my question thank you :) its so difficult not knowing when shedding is taking place. Do we shed from the genital tract or from the skin? And one more... Sorry.... How likely is it to transmit via asymptomatic shedding??? Thank you so so so much!!!
I did read the handbook, its helpful, i just wanted to clarify. Does that mean we shed the entire day before or is it just minutes/hours? Im confused!
did you read the free herpes handbook we recommend?
typically shedding starts about a day or so before obvious symptoms. you also shed periodically in between. shedding can be as short as a few hours or as long as several days.
Also how long do we shed for?. Thanks so much :)
Quick question... I posted before but i dont think it worked so sorry if im repeating myself. Do we always shed before and outbreak?
Hello again... Just another question. Do we always shed before an outbreak?
don't try to learn it all and over load yourself. learn the basics, remember that precautions really do work ,remember that you need to know the status of a partner in order to make educated decisions about precautions and also never forget that it's not all just about the herpes you know you have.
This **** is mindblowing lol. I dont think ill ever understand. I havent read the handbook, ill have a read now.
have you read the free herpes handbook yet?
shaving can create trauma to the skin which can potentially trigger shedding.
shedding is about the same amount whether you have obvious lesions or not.
shedding can be as long as a few hours, several days or even a week or more.
clear as mud? lol
Sorry, i couldnt find my original post. I was just wondering how often we shed, if when shedding how long it lasts? Days, hours? if shaving increases transmission rates, and is it the same as an outbreak when we shed, as in, still highly contagious? Im still researching and its alot to learn !!!
I really wouldn't worry much at all about this.
I dont get the symptoms very often, i sometimes think its thrush, i went to the doctor today to get tested for my exact type of HSV so that will be helpful. If i was shedding do you know what the likelihood of him contracting it would be? I understand its difficult to speculate. Im just really worried for him.
yes they could be a prodromal symptom or even your actual recurrence. have you ever been seen when you have these symptoms? how often are you getting them?
1 out of every 2-3 people you know has oral herpes. 1 out of every 4-5 has genital herpes. not many of us get through life without at least one time of herpes and it's certainly nothing to feel dirty about!!!
Hi Grace, thank you so much for your answer. Ive been looking relentlessly at the internet trying to figure herpes out. Ive not had blisters in years but i do as i said experience the tingling/itching/burning like i am now and i was wondering if they are prodrome or if its an outbreak? If its an outbreak then i imagine i would of been asymptomatic at the time we dooled around which would increase his chances of contraction? There was definite vaginal fluid on his penis. Im sorry to be a pain and go on about it. I feel ashamed because of the stigma associated with it and i just feel like im dirty.
your symptoms started days later so not likely you were shedding at the time of this very low risk encounter.
since you are starting to fool around with this fellow, time to talk about all std's, not just the herpes you know you have. remember, this is just as much about protecting you from what he might have as it is protecting him from your herpes!!
why are you ashamed of having herpes? it's incredibly common! Have you read the free herpes handbook yet or terri warren's "the good news about the bad news" book?
