Herles or allergies??

i am 31 weeks pregnant and just left the dermatologist for a rash I've been having since Tuesday(8 days ago)... I saw my primary two days ago and she had no clue what my rash could be. When my OB saw it today she said she thought it was an allergic reaction but didn't give advice since she knew I was headed to the dermatologist.
It's red. It's itchy. It's everywhere. They're like red bumps. Some look like blisters. It started on my foot, then as each day progressed went to hands, knees, elbows, back of legs/butt and now thighs. The dermatologist all but said he thinks it's herpes and now I'm freaking out!!! He kept asking if I had cold sores or anything on my vagina. I had blood drawn at the beginning and middle of my pregnancy, wouldn't it have said I had it? I want to deliver naturally and this will devastate me if it is herpes and I won't be able to deliver. The bumps aren't painful, except for some on my hands when I go to open jars, or hold the leash as I walk my dog.
I was reading that contact dermatitis can sometimes be mistaken for herpes. Could this be my case? I know I'll have an answer by Monday (today's Wednesday) but any reassurance would be great.

this is not genital herpes. It would not cause this many body parts to be affected at the same time.

You will need to check to see if you were ever tested for herpes too. It's not a part of routine std testing and your obgyn might not routinely test for it. At this point however it's getting too late in your pregnancy for herpes blood testing to be accurate. Once you get close to your 3rd trimester, your blood is too dilute from pregnancy to accurately test via blood testing for herpes. Not that your symptoms sound at all like herpes mind you, but in case you were concerned about your own herpes status now that it is on your mind.

It sounds like perhaps you need a 2nd opinion from a different dermatologist at this point.

Whatever it is, continuously is getting worse. When I called the dermatologist he told me to continue to apply the cream he gave me (which isn't really helping with the itch) and to go to er if I have trouble breathing. He also said the biopsy he took won't be back for 2 whole weeks!!! I'm dying here. Wondering if I should get a second opinion.

No recent blood work was taken. I was referring to all the blood work taken in the 1st trimester. A needle biopsy was done yesterday and I won't have results for weeks. In the mean time, I'm continuing to worsen

Herpes (HSV1/HSV2) would not present it self as an all over body issue. Other forms of herpes tend to more manifest on the torso (Zoster for example) so this is difficult to attribute to a form of herpes.

An allergic reaction would mean that these are hives. Again the torso features prominently but can also be very widespread. Usually an antihistamine means zap, these are gone. Best to be advised by the doctor before doing this though.

I trust a swab has been taken?

Quite possibly your blood was checked for HSV1 and HSV2 IgG antibodies but best to confirm this.
