Hello everyone, I have been feeling really anxious about a problem I have
Recently I received unprotected oral sex from someone I did not know very well. It was followed by protected intercourse.
5 days later: Started feeling intermittent warmth in my urethra. No pain or dysuria, also no blisters or rashes on genitals.
At the same time, started developing flu-like symptoms, including mild fever, also coughing. Initially thought it was unrelated.
Flu-like symptoms persisted for a few days. I also had headache and fatigue. Started having really intense diarrhea around 7th day, which persisted for at least a week.
Intermittent warmth in urethra persisted for a week, and it slowly faded away. No discharge from penis.
After symptoms disappeared, I had some mild irritation after urination and ejaculation, which lasted for a couple of days (~4 days).
Visited STD clinic in Canada on the 7th day after exposure. They ran a couple of exams, including swab test in urethra, urine sample and blood (not including HSV). They all came back negative, although they told me to redo Syphilis and HIV after 3 months. Not really concerned about HIV though. No bacteria found.
Also visited a GP on the 12th day after exposure, when diarrhea started to worry me. She ordered an additional Urinalysis, which came back normal. She told me it sounded like a viral infection, but seemed kind of clueless about the whole thing.
Right now the symptoms seem to be gone. However, the anxiety remained, and it seems to be affecting me a lot. Every itch I have on my genital causes worries.
The main problem is that in Canada they refuse to do blood tests for HSV-1/2. They only do the swab tests for outbreaks. The problem is that Herpes can also cause NGU, even though I heard it is rare. I was pretty much left undiagnosed.
I wanted to ask if anybody experienced this before. Should I worry about Herpes? Is it common for it to infect the middle of your urethra? I never had any rashes, blisters, even on the tip of my urethra. Should I investigate this further?
Even if I got infected with Herpes, am I at risk of passing it along, given the site of infection?
