Help telling some one after the fact

I have been seeing this man for about 6 weeks now 3 weeks into I had the full std test done.  First time I just got out of a 7 year relastionship.

Of course we have been intimate and not using protection.  I just found out on Friday that I have hsv2 I did not know i had it.  I have not ever had an out break the doctor described it to me have not ever had anything like she described.

1. is it possible to have it and the virus be lying dorment in your system and not ever coming to the service.

2. how do i tell this man without he thinking i was hidding from him

3. since i did not ever have any signs or outbreaks could I still have passed it on to him?

4. if I could have passed it to him how long before he might get it.

Sorry a lot of questions my doctor told me he is most likely safe since I seem to not be active now or have not been active and that I just have the virus lying around in my body maybe to come out and maybe not.

Is this so.  I am so worried about my partner and his health.

You can also get a copy of your results, which would have the date on them, and that will help show that you didn't know and weren't hiding it from him.

If you knew, you certainly wouldn't be testing for it, right?  But it is a good idea to post the results here.  I'm still surprised at how often docs order the wrong test, or read the test wrong, etc.

He'll definitely need to check to see if he's ever been tested for herpes. Most places when you go ask for std testing you only get chlamydia, hiv and gonorrhea but they usually don't tell you that part :(

As I said I can help you with the results to see if you need additional confirmatory testing.

I will call the doctor office and ask them. He told me that he gets a full check up every year for HIV and so on.

That is why when I was there and the doctor asked I was like sure why not.  Not ever believing I was going to test positive.  He has blown me away and I know I need to tell him but I am in shock my self.

I will try and get the results and post them here.  thanks for the advise

the herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com is a terrific resource and will answer most of your questions you have. Give it a read when you get a chance and watch the patient counseling video there too if your doc didn' talready give you the gsk herpes dvd at your appointment.

Can you get a copy of your blood test results and post their numeric values here? ie hsv2 igg 4. 7 and hsv1 igg 2. 7 or whatever they are. That way we can see if you need additional testing or not.

This is still really low risk for your partner. did he get tested for std's too?
