help me with my question about herpes

Can herpetic whitlow be contracted via INDIRECT contact such as someone touching a cold sore and then shaking your hand (which has a tiny wound)? My doctor and some online doctors on Healthtap say that that's not possible because it's indirect contact, but my dermatologist said that you could never be sure but he seemed kinda in a hurry so I don't know if I should believe him.

You'd probably be hit by a meteor before being infected through what you describe, it's just too low probability, theoretical only.

Note:
The wound I am talking about is a week old torn cuticle, so it was already in a healing stage with no bleeding and it didn't hurt anymore.
