Well, here's the long answer: the virus can live a few minutes in saliva, so I generally don't recommend you share food and drink using the same utensils, lipsticks and cigarettes. However, there are no documented cases of the virus being passed in this manner. This was confirmed to me a few months ago by two of our best researchers, Anna Wald at the University of Washington, and Terri Warren of Westover Heights Clinic, both of whom asserted that it "just doesn't happen." The virus requires skin-to-skin contact, with either a mucous membrane (mouth, genitals) or portal (cut, wound, tear, abrasion) in the receiver. It's not passed via bodily fluids or from inanimate objects.
thanks! just didn't know if saliva on the food would pass it?
Hi, and no its not passed through food.
