herpes exposure...

hi, i'm a 21 year old female who has never had an std or sti. but a few days ago (3/13) i had unprotected sex (only one encounter) with a friend of mine who has herpes and allegedly gential warts (i didn't find out until last night.) i don't believe he was having an outbreak, but can't be sure because it was dark and i didn't have any skin to skin contact with his penis other than penetration. i've been stressing hard about it and doing a lot of research, and i read about "shedding" so that freaked me out more...i haven't had any symptoms but it's only been a few days soo...? what are the chances of me contracting herpes and/or gential warts from this one encounter?

Of course, there's a chance. The chance of transmitting herpes from a one off encounter is usually very small, even when a person has herpes.
What to do now is keep a look out for blisters. These will usually crop up between 2 and 10 days after the sex. For most people it's within 7 days. If you don't see any within 2 weeks after sex, it's a great sign but not 100% conclusive.
The next step would be a blood test which unfortunately must be taken after 12 weeks.
Good luck!
