Transmission of HSV to previously infected person

About 6 months ago I was diagnosed with genital HSV-1 (Had gotten it from a partner who had oral HSV-1 and performed oral sex).  I have recently begun to date a man who has genital HSV-2.  I know that there is a small, but real chance that I could transmit HSV-1 to him, but what are the chances that I could contract genital (or oral) HSV-2 from him?  If he took a daily dosage of medication such as Valtrex, would that suppress the shedding of his virus and decrease my chances of contracting it?
I've read conflicting research articles about this, but am curious as to what the Herpes community out there has to say...I'd be very interested!
Thanks so much,
~S

I am no expert but you are only immune to the type you have. In other words use all the necessary protection to prevent yourself from getting HSV2. Suppressive medication is good but still condomise. Please also bare in mind that condoms don't offer 100% protection against HPV and HSV. All the best!!!

your hsv1 genital infection is not the issue here. the issue is his hsv2 infection . you can get infected with both.  he should consider daily suppressive therapy to protect you.

hsv2 provides significant protection from contracting hsv1 but not vice versa.

the herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com is a terrific and free resource for you and your partner.
