Hypertension in teens

My 14 yr old daughter was just diagnosed with hypertension. She is at a normal weight, active and her diet isn't that bad for a teenager. Doctor did a urinalysis which came back normal and a full blood work up, with nothing unusual. I have heard that HTN in teens can be a sign of kidney issues as well as an underlying heart issue.. Has anyone's children been diagnosed with HTN and if so, what was the underlying cause? We have a follow up appt. with doc in 2 weeks to decide on the next step..... Thanks

Unfortunately I don't know my dad but I think he's full (African American) I also don't know my moms medical history  because she lives in another state, but my grandmother and sister on in my moms family both had hypertension at a young age...my sister is 26 and on meds for hypertension and my grandma is 64 and been on meds since at least 30's.

I had a kidney renal done to test kidney function and came back normal, but that's all I had done. I hope to figure out what's causing mine cause I don't want to be on meds either...I've though about stopping them myself.

Let me know how it all goes, it's been tough for me hope all gets better god bless

I have been taking her blood pressure daily for the past 3 weeks and it's always high...Doc said it could be either a kidney issue or underlying heart issue, so we're going to a cardiologist in a week. According to doc they don't want to put her on meds cause she's so young, so first step is cardiologist for an Echo and then maybe nephrologist to check kidneys and see if there is a renal artery stenosis.. Have you had your kidneys checked?  What is your family history?

I'm 22 years old and I have hypertension with no underlying cause, I've had a heart echo, kidney renal, EKG, stress test, head MRI all was normal. I'm currently taking 100mg losartan/hctz 25mg......my diet isn't that bad, my weight is well managed for my 6'3 frame...I played sports, it's all caught me by suprise. My top number (systolic) I can't seem to get down stays around 140's. Was she diagnosed on a single reading or multiple Bp readings? Is she taking any meds? What tests are they doing I might need more done too. Hopefully we can both figure this out
