The injury he received probably didn't do anything however, I just read that even though the procedure you did was clean and the incident may not cause such a thing. The persons teeth being so bad that there have been  a few cases where the patient was septic due to bad teeth and got tetanus from the bad teeth not from the dental procedure. So, in this case since the person has such bad teeth and you don't know his health condition if it is possible to have him get a vaccination it would good. Or at least advise him to get one from his family practice doctor right away because of the poor condition of his teeth. It should done right away.  though.

The other worry from an injury or bad teeth and gums is of course other anaerobes such as Porhyromonas gingivalis and fusobacteria. If the jaw was exposed also, was there any Actinomyces.  So those are more likely.

Yes it is the soil. So that is why you get the vaccine every 10 years to protect yourself if you get a puncture wound.  It doesn't usually go into oral wounds. It is anaerobic so it lives in places where there is no air. It doesn't sound like a risk for tetanus. How did you get the wound?
