Meningitis

I engaged in deep mouth kissing. Over the next few days I developed stiff/sore back of the neck, stiff/sore lower back, and one of my/ eyes now has a dull/achy pain. Should I be worried about meningitis?

You do not have the symptoms of meningitis.

As you were engaged in deep mouth kissing, it is likely that you strained your neck and back to do this, especially if the person you were kissing is taller than you are.

The achy eye may have no relation with regard to the neck and back problem, but if you notice that it starts to get red and *****, it is likely that it may be conjunctivitis.  See how it goes and if it does worsen then do make an appointment to see your doctor.  Don't share towels with other people and don't rub your eyes or touch them with dirty hands.

With regard to your ear, sinus, head pressure, it appears that you have mild congestion.  To help clear that do steam inhalations to unblock the sinuses.  To do this, boil up a kettleful of water and pour this into a fairly large bowl (taking care not to get scalded).  Put in some Vick or Olbas Oil or any menthol oil that you like.  Bend your head over the bowl of water and cover your head and the bowl with a large towel.  Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth.  Do this for a duration of 10 minutes 4 times each day.

My doctor gave me this advice, because I am not able to take any decongestants.

If you do notice that you cannot tolerate light, get a high fever and notice any spots appearing on your body then do get seen by a doctor straight away.

There is a virus that can be caught by kissing and it is called Infectious mononucleosis or "mono" for short and this is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus.  You would get a very high fever and very sore throat and swollen lymph nodes.  Because it is a virus, there is no antibiotic that would treat it, but rest, pain relief and lots of drinks.  But it still would be wise to see the doctor to confirm the diagnosis.

Hope that helps.

If you have had it that long it is probably not meningitis. It sounds more like a virus with possible ear infection. You could see  your doctor regarding the neck/back pain and explain your symptoms since you have had it over a week. But if you haven't had a fever then it is unlikely to be meningitis.

No fever, tiredness, or vomiting. It's primarily the neck/upper shoulder and lower back stiffness that's been here for almost two weeks. I've had a slight headache with slight sinus pressure that extends to my ears that comes and goes. Other than that, I feel normal.

Do you have a fever if so then how high is it? Do you have a headache, vomiting, tiredness? Joint pain ? Big thing is high fever with the neck stiffness. It sounds possible with the achy pain you might have a fever. Check it.Let me know.
