ibs-d? Psych? cure? urgency

Heres my story can anyone relate?

I was sick a lot as a kid, ear throat infections, remember taking antibiotics for this as I am allergic to penicillin.

I remember getting food poisoning about 16 years ago, this has not been verified as food poisoning but I am pretty sure it was, very intense vomiting and diarrhoea and felt sick for couple of weeks after.

Things never really were the same after that.

Not immediately but soon after this food poisoning episode.. 2-3 months after.

Started off as feeling nauseated every day, took anti nausea pills daily. Approx 1 yr.

After a while my nausea started to subside and I started getting the urgency to have bowel movements but thought nothing of it.

Not Watery diarrhoea all the time, mostly loose stools sometimes, explosive diarrhoea, sometimes normal formed stools.

I remember a fishing trip I went on with my brother in law and I got a attack on the highway and needed to stop and do my business in the middle of the highway in between shrubbery.. this happened again few minutes later. Needless to say I did not attempt to get on the boat and fished offshore feeling fine.

I started to get these urgency attacks, on my way to work in the morning every once in a while, then it became daily..

My family physician told me he thinks it was a mental thing and sent me to a psychiatrist who prescribed me drugs.. I took for a couple of days but stopped because I didn’t feel right.

I tried to deal with it on my own for a few years but it started to eventually affect me during work.

I returned to a psychiatrist again after my wife was pregnant as her doctor recommended someone with a high cure rating. And was prescribed clonazepam which I was on for 10 yrs .5 mil twice a day.

I was doing ok as I was feeling calmer but the attacks still would come at the worst times whenever there was no bathroom available, I had every bathroom mapped out before any trip.

It got to the point where I had to travel in separate vehicles without my wife. it has gotten a  little better but I still would prefer to travel alone in case I did get another attack.

I had a pretty good job for the last 7 yrs. .. but about a year ago I was advised by my doctors to take time off due to my stomach issues getting worse. I returned to work on a return to work program through my insurance which lasted 5 months before my employer decided to terminate me due to lack of work back in March of this year.

I have since been searching the internet been off clonazepam for approx. 5 months, taking natural supplements’, seeing therapist for cognitive behavioural therapy, joined a gym,  doing self hypnosis and doing more research on the internet..........................

I am desperatly seeking answers... I want my life back............

I have dealt with this for years, a specific probiotic with Sacc Boulardii helped me with my digestion a lot, you can message me if you want.  But also, I seem to have rectal prolapse issues which is causing the urgency, so I am doctoring for that.  This is NOT in your head!  Best of luck, keep looking for answers and trying new things!

See the show "Know the Cause" (on religious) or go to their website and watch a couple of programs.  They always talk about once you have taken anti-biotics, these antibiotics do kill bacteria but they also kill the good bacteria in your body.  Buy some probiotics at your health food store. You need to start getting the flora back in your system. Also, go to health food store for pH test strips and see if your body is acidic.  If it is,
Wheat Grass is fabulous for alkalizing your body.  Aloe will calm your body's inflammation.  Start watching what you put in your mouth.  Chemicals such as MSG, sodium nitrates, sodium benzoates, etc.  Once you start reading what is on the labels of the food you eat you'll realize all the poisons the FDA is letting the food people put in our diets.  You can stop being anxious and panicky.  That is only going to bring more stress on your body.  You are searching for the right answers and you will get them as long as you search!

Wow. Sorry to hear you've been dealing with this for so long. I am surprised that your family doctor thought it was psychological. My first guess would be IBS or a food intolerance, especially since you've had issues with your immunity since you were a child. The mind can certainly cause the body pain, but after this long of persistent symptoms I am almost certain that there is an underlying physical condition yet to be found. My suggestion would be to get 2nd and 3rd opinions. If your family physician is at a loss for a diagnosis, keep trying others until you've made some progress. It's great that you're taking matters into your own hands, doing your own research and making more natural approaches. Have you tried an elimination diet or fasting to find our if certain foods might be the cause of this?

All the best,
Brittany
