High Ferritin too long

I have had ellivated ferritin levels for over 13 years. I did have a liver biopsy about 11 years ago which was negative for hemocromotosis. My current ferritin level is 864 (NG/ML 22-322) and my liver GPT is 90 (0-65u/l). I occasional drink beer. so that should not be a cause.   This has gone on too long and would like to know why.  Can anyone help me find out why this is happening and what is causing this? I have blood work every 6 months. My Dr. is baffled and has not sent me for further testing. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

My Dr (general MD and specialist) were stumped also but I have halved my reading by donating to the blood bank over the past18 months.  I figured that if that was what was done to assist hemocromotosis suffers then that was good enough for me - and I could be doing someone else some good.

Has your doc run the genetic testing for hemochromastosis.  It is my understanding the liver biopsy would confirm the amount of iron stored in your liver not whether or not you had hemochromatosis.
