Liver pain with no other symptoms?

Occasionally I feel a pain/discomfort in the upper right quadrant of my abdomen, 'behind' my ribcage where my liver would be. I am a moderate to heavy drinker. 32 years old. Slightly overweight for my height (basically just heavy enough to qualify as being 'overweight'). No health problems besides high cholesterol.

I had a liver enzyme test about one year ago and it showed elevated enzymes, but I also had one this summer and it showed everything as normal.

I am wondering if my drinking can be causing liver pain, or rather, if it is possible for liver dysfunction to cause pain/discomfort but no other symptoms, as I am not experiencing any of the other symptoms associated with liver damage. E.G. Does the liver start hurting FIRST and then cause other symptoms, or do symptoms like jaundice or  abnormal urine/stool come before pain does?
