hello i did alot of research on what the elevations mean when i tested positive for mono and saw that my enzymes were high and everything kept saying the same thing. if you have extremely high enzymes it could still be very little damage the same as with high enzymes or even if you are mildly high it could still mean more damage. basically its you liver showing something is bothering it and whether its extremely high or mildly high it could be little damage or more damage depending on your surcumstances. hope this helps
What do you consider mildy high?
It's not an exact science anyway. An outrageous number could mean mononucleosis. My ALT was 200, and my AST was 92 I think... And I was found to have a genetic iron overload condition called hemochromatosis which can be 88% fatal 4 years after symptoms are presented.
I second that vote. However, I would add that the correlation between enzyme levels and liver damage is not necessarily that great, meaning that even mild elevations could mask a greater extent of liver damage that one would think would corrrellate to higher enzyems. At least I think so anyway.
I'm going to vote for very elevated enzymes being worse than mildly elevated.
