sorry got to get back to work so I didn't have time to read all of the posts. I did however read some of them and teko not all of us wanted God out of the schools, homes, and government. It is a shame that christians have allowed a few atheist to run there lives.
My husband was an atheist when I first met him 10 years ago. Two weekend agos he gave himself to God and was baptised. We go to church every sunday. For many years I was looked down on for marrying him because of his belief but I think God knew I could change my DHs mind and bring him to God.
Also one last note I ordered the book mentioned above. I like the critics on it so I am interested in reading what it says.
My question is that if he could kill someone premeditated - is he rehabilitable? Do you think he'd kill again as he grew older? I know when someone does that type of thing as an adult it's a lot different. What do you all think? Should he get life in prison or should he be counselled and then see how that goes and then release him? I just wonder about that - is a child at 11 really capable of understanding the tremendous responsibility of their actions?
helpinutah- I heard that about the jail thing too. I also heard that he's facing life in prison.. Life in prison is a LOOOONNNG time for an 11 year old, Imagine how crazy that's going to make him.
and I also heard the thing about keeping him away from general population, he will have to shower alone and stuff. I can't believe a child that young could even think of something like that.
From what I read, family members of the slain woman said he had threatened her before and he placed a blanket over the end of the rifle before he shot her. It was definitely premeditated. They are trying him as an adult because in PA where he lives there is no way to charge a minor with premeditated murder in the juvenile court system. They will have to keep him away from the general population. So scary to think of a child doing something like this, but yes, the bible states these things will happen in the last days! But, it's so sad!
Teko: Very well said, as usual!
So sad,
Janet
I was actually watching this story yesterday, it said he shot her execution style, she was days away from delivering the baby and he did it because he was jealous. His dad was married to the women and she was pregnant with his dad's child. His dad apparantly paid more attention to the new wife than his son.. so sad.
Only God knows when Armageddon or Judgement Day will come. I know that's in the Bible but can't remember where. Would leaving God in the schools have prevented what happened? I don't know.
In the ghetto where I live, two young men were shot and killed and they were both from parochial schools where religion is taught. Drugs were involved so the shooting got less media coverage than a convenience store robbery.
The event Jollyman described made me wonder - are murderers, drug dealers, criminals, etc. children of God? This is a question not an attempt to put down anyone's religious beliefs.
