Do periods ever stop...just like that?!?!

I had regular periods until last year when I skipped one.  Then 15 months of normal periods (once every 28 days).  Now however I am 4 weeks late again.  So what is this.....menopause?  Am I done mentruating, or can I expect for it to come back again?  How many of you just stopped one day never to have a period again?

I thought it was supposed to come with hot flashes, etc etc.

PS: I will be 50 in October (dang, am I really that old??)

I can't speak about me personally, but I have a friend that just stopped having periods and never had another again (early 50s at the time). Don't be too anxious to get the rest of the menopausal symptoms!!!! My friend did eventually start to experience hot flashes, but doesn't take any HRT and is really doing fine without it. The hot flashes, for her, are very much occasional and she can deal with them just fine.

I, on the other hand, just had a complete hysterectomy and have been thrown into automatic menopause. I can't take HRT because I have a previous history of blood clots. I get night sweats and a lot of hot flashes (taken to having an ice pack near me at all times at work). I hope you are one of the very fortunate that has very few if any symptoms of menopause!!!! I think you are very lucky!! Of course, if you are wondering, for sure, if it is menopause, you can see the doctor about a blood and/or saliva test to test for the levels of hormones floating around in you. If it is, indeed, menopause, I envy your lack of symptoms.  I have to say, though, I'm doing quite good compared to some of my other friends who have experienced surgical menopause. I have virtually no emotional symptoms!!!!  YAE!!!!

Take care you lucky girl! By the way....fifty is the new 40, ya know : ) That makes you a youngster, yet!!!! Good luck!

Who knows.  I'm in my 50's and have perimenopausal for several years.  For me periods happen, stop....start again....stop....start and so on.  Before that I was regular too.  I do have a friend that said she had a few hot flashes for a few months and then just stopped and that was the end. No more periods or hot flashes.

I had horrible symptoms and was very sick several years ago when perimenopause hit me hard....so hard they thought I must have something else and tested for all sorts of things, all negative. Anyway it wasn't until six months into the "illness"  (including no periods during that time) that hot flashes started and the doctors finally decided it was hormonal after all.  Some people never get hot flashes.  I don't have huge problems with them just occasional though the night sweats (I don't actually sweat) are more of an issue for me because they wake me up.

I guess everyone is different.
